Are prefabricated foot orthoses still effective in reducing plantar pressures after 12 months of wear?

چکیده
Background Foot problems are highly prevalent in older people, and prefabricated (‘off-the-shelf’) foot orthoses are frequently prescribed in this age-group. However, such devices are susceptible to material compression and deformation, which may reduce their effectiveness over time. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the difference in plantar pressures between prefabricated orthoses worn for at least 12 months to new prefabricated orthoses in older people.

The Effect of Different Types of Foot Orthoses on Foot Plantar Pressure in Subjects with Plantar Fasciitis: A Literature Review
Objective Plantar fasciitis is a plantar fascia inflammation and one of the most common causes of heel pain, causing pain in the inner side of the heel bone. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze the effect of different foot orthoses on the distribution of foot pressure in patients with plantar fasciitis. Materials & Methods The systematic search of PubMed, Science Direct and Web of...

Plantar heel pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal conditions affecting the foot and it is commonly experienced by older adults. Contoured foot orthoses and some heel inserts have been found to be effective for plantar heel pain, however the mechanism by which they achieve their effects is largely unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of foot orthoses and heel i...
متن کاملContoured, prefabricated foot orthoses demonstrate comparable mechanical properties to contoured, customised foot orthoses: a plantar pressure study
BACKGROUND Foot orthoses have been demonstrated to be effective in the management of a range of conditions, but there is debate as to the benefits of customised foot orthoses over less expensive, prefabricated devices. METHODS In a randomised, cross-over trial, 15 flat-footed participants aged between 18 and 45 years were provided with semi-rigid, customised orthoses and semi-rigid, contoured...
متن کاملEffectiveness of foot orthoses to treat plantar fasciitis: a randomized trial.
BACKGROUND Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common foot complaints. It is often treated with foot orthoses; however, studies of the effects of orthoses are generally of poor quality, and to our knowledge, no trials have investigated long-term effectiveness. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the short- and long-term effectiveness of foot orthoses in the treatment of plantar fasciitis. ...

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of prefabricated foot orthoses and rocker-sole footwear on spatiotemporal parameters, hip and knee kinematics, and plantar pressures in people with first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint osteoarthritis (OA). METHODS A total of 102 people with first MTP joint OA were randomly allocated to receive prefabricated foot orthoses or rocker-sole footwear. The immediat...
